About Me

Your Sunshine Coast Celebrant

Sandy Smales Sunshine Coast Celebrant

I consider myself a very privileged woman to be included in such important life events.

So how did I get to this incredible point in my life? It’s been far from boring – that’s for sure!!

My teenage years were spent here on the Sunshine Coast, after growing up in Brisbane and coming up on the weekends. This was in the 1970’s in a very laid-back Mooloolaba. There’s been a lot of changes since then, but all the natural beauty of this area; the ocean, the rivers and mountains are all still here to enjoy – plus a lot better shopping!

The travel bug hit hard in the 1980’s and 90’s, with many a fantastic adventure – enough to fill a lifetime of memories and saw a lot of this amazing world. Even then, I was always captivated by the many fascinating rituals associated with weddings, funerals and life’s milestones in other cultures.

I didn’t realise my future husband was just over at the next beach in Maroochydore. He was born on the Sunshine Coast, and has lots of great stories about growing up here. We married in 1995, and our daughter recently moved to  Brisbane, pursuing her music career. So being empty nesters, we have more time for beach camping and fishing.

Principle of My Work

Because all people should have equal rights, and the opportunity to fulfil dreams and hopes, regardless of beliefs, gender or age.

Because diversity means understanding that each individual is unique.  This includes race, gender, religious beliefs, age and sexual orientation.

Because acting with integrity means acting with honesty, and being true to ones’ self. It is adhering to a Code of Conduct and believing in it.

Because respect is honoring someone by showing care, concern and consideration for their needs, feelings, and privacy.

Transparency means there are no hidden agenda, costs or fine print. I believe in Openness, Communication and Accountability.

My work life has always gravitated toward interacting directly with people and public speaking. I was a Bus Tour Guide/cook in Europe, charity event organiser, Silver Service waitress in London.  And then in 2004, I became a government appointed celebrant.

I still get goose bumps when I see a bride walk down the aisle, and feel so proud and honoured to assist a family farewell their loved one.   This must be the best job in the world!!
